
Sound Tigers & Wolf Pack To Play For Geico Connecticut Cup

BRIDGEPORT, CT â The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, have announced they will play their intrastate rivals, the Hartford Wolf Pack, for the Geico Connecticut Cup this season. The winner of the ten-game series, which begins this Saturday and is highlighted by games in Bridgeport the day after Thanksgiving and the day after Christmas, will earn the title in addition to bragging rights in the state.
Season ticket holders of both teams will be able to purchase tickets to the games in the opposing city at specially-discounted prices. Hartford full-season ticket holders will be able to purchase specially-discounted tickets to the five games in Bridgeport by presenting their Wolf Pack season-ticket-holder identification card in-person at the Arena at Harbor Yard box office. Bridgeport full and 20-game season-ticket holders will be able to purchase specially-discounted tickets to the five games in Hartford by presenting their Sound Tigers season-ticket-holder merchandise-discount card in-person at the Hartford Civic Center box office. The Sound Tigers have had an intense rivalry with Hartford since their first season of play. They are 17-10-3 all-time versus Wolf Pack, including 5-3-2 with one overtime loss last season. During the Sound Tigers' first season of play, 2001-02, the teams battled right down to the final game for the AHL's Macgregor Kilpatrick Trophy Regular-Season Championship, which the Sound Tigers won with a 4-1 victory in front of nearly seven-thousand fans at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard on April 7, 2002. The Islanders and New York Rangers, Hartford's NHL affiliate, also share one of the most intense and storied rivalries in all of sports.

The Sound Tigers will visit the Albany River Rats tomorrow at 7 p.m. then return home to host the Wolf Pack this Saturday at 7:05 p.m. and the Binghamton Senators this Sunday at 4:05 p.m. All games will be broadcast live on 600 WICC-AM and at www.soundtigers.com.
