Connecticut Whale News Release
Hartford, October 21, 2004: The American Hockey League's Hartford Wolf Pack and Bridgeport Sound Tigers will battle not only for position in the Atlantic Division this season, but for state bragging rights in the first year of the GEICO Connecticut Cup.
The teams face-off against each other ten times this season. The club winning the most games takes the trophy home and claims hockey supremacy in the state for the season. The first game of the series will be played in Bridgeport this coming Saturday, October 23, with the first game of the series at the Civic Center to be played on Saturday, November 6. Willy O'Ree, the first black player in the NHL is scheduled to drop the puck at that contest.
"There's such an intense rivalry between our parent clubs already, this seems a natural," said Wolf Pack General Manager Jim Schoenfeld. "Not only is there competition between the players on the two teams, this rivalry extends to the fans as well.
