Mississauga Steelheads News Release

The Mississauga Steelheads look to continue their four-game win streak as they face the North Bay Battalion, Sudbury Wolves, and Kingston Frontenacs.

Big Division Game

The Steelheads start the week by travelling up to North Bay to face the Battalion. The division rivals have become quite familiar with each other as of late, having played in both the last game before the holiday break and the first back, with the Steelheads prevailing in both matchups. In their 5-4 victory on December 29, the Steelheads were led by James Hardie and Luca DelBelBelluz, with each of them producing four-point outings.

The Steelheads currently hold a four point lead over the Battalion in the Central Division, with three games in hand. The Steelheads also have the most points in the OHL, with 40 through 28 games.

Last Trip to the Nickel City

The Steelheads head to Sudbury to face the Wolves on the road for the final time this season. In their last meeting on New Years Eve, the Steelheads emerged victorious by a score of 8-2. Ethan Del Mastro led the way for the Steelheads with four assists, helping him be named the OHL Defenceman of the Month for December. Joe Ranger got the win in goal, stopping 25 of the 27 shots he faced.

The Steelheads have won 3 of 4 against the Wolves this season, out-scoring them by a count of 21-9. Leading the way for the Steelheads has been Aidan Prueter, who has 7 points in 4 games against the Wolves this season. Roman Basran and Ranger have split the games against the Wolves, with Ranger winning twice with a .912 save percentage, and Basran going 1-1 with a .930 save percentage.

Back in Action

After being postponed due to Covid-19 protocols affecting the Kingston Frontenacs, the Steelheads are ready to face their conference rivals at home this Sunday. It's been a heated series with the Frontenacs, where both teams have shown why they are two of the best in the Ontario Hockey League.

The Steelheads currently lead the league with 40 points in 28 games (19-7-1-1), and Kingston is not too far behind in third place with 37 points in 25 games (17-5-3-0).Both teams have also been listed in the Kia CHL Top-10 Rankings several times this year.
