Saginaw Spirit News Release
Saginaw, MI - The Saginaw Spirit (13-14-1-0) search for their first victory in 2022 when they host their rival from 40 miles south, the Flint Firebirds (14-10-0-2). This game was originally to be played on Dec. 18, 2021 but was postponed due to league COVID-19 protocols effecting the Flint Firebirds. The Spirit were previously slated to play the Windsor Spitfires this evening, but that game has been rescheduled and made up at a later day.
Head-to-Head
Tonight, marks the ninth of 12 meetings this season between the Spirit and the Firebirds. Flint tied the season-series at four games apiece with a 5-2 decision on Saturday night. 19-year-old forward Sahil Panwar had a career night for the Birds, scoring a goal and two assists. Panwar has three goals in his last four games, two of those goals coming against Saginaw, and three of his five goals this season have come against the Spirit red, white, and blue. Rookie Amadeus Lombardi also tied a career-high with a three-point night. All three of those three-point games have occurred in the last seven Flint contests. Spirit 2022 NHL Draft eligible Matyas Sapovaliv finished a strong week with an assist, while Sebastien Gervais and Mitchell Smith filled the net for the home side.
