
Somerset Patriots acquire infielder Nick Ortiz

Bridgewater, NJ - The Three-Time Atlantic League Champion Somerset Patriots have purchased the contract of infielder Nick Ortiz from the Road Warriors.
Ortiz had a .288 batting average with 88 hits, 16 doubles, four home runs, and 34 RBI for the Road Warriors in 78 games played this season.
Prior to joining the Road Warriors, Ortiz spent time with the Long Island Ducks and had a .450 batting average with three home runs and eight RBI in six games played.
Ortiz has Triple-A experience in the Montreal Expos, Cleveland Indians, and Kansas City Royals organizations. He has played in the Boston Red Sox, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Chicago Cubs farm systems. He also played for the Bridgeport Bluefish during the 2004 season.
In other team news, the Somerset Patriots have placed right-handed pitcher Mike Johnson on the inactive list and catcher Fernando Lunar on the disabled list.
Johnson will be playing for Team Canada in an Olympic Qualifying tournament and will not return to the Patriots for the remainder of the 2006 season. Fellow Patriots Ryan Radmanovich and shortstop Kevin Nicholson are expected to leave the team to join Team Canada later this week.
The 2006 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at Commerce Bank Ballpark on Wednesday, August 16th with a 7:05 pm game against the Newark Bears. Wednesday's game includes entertainment from The ZOOperstars! courtesy of APC and NCG.
