Lancaster Stormers News Release

Lancaster Barnstormers left-hander Rob Henkel has been signed by the Boston Red Sox organization, the Barnstormers announced today.

The former UCLA Bruin, who was selected by the Florida Marlins in the third round of the 2000 draft, was 7-4 with a 4.23 ERA in 27 appearances, including seven starts, for the Barnstormers.

Henkel, 28, began the 2006 season in the Barnstormers bullpen. His year began to improve in June, and he joined Lancaster's starting rotation just prior to the All-Star break. Since then, he had won five consecutive decisions and posted a 2.84 ERA.

Henkel will join the Red Sox' triple-A affiliate in Pawtucket, R.I. and is scheduled to start for the PawSox on Wednesday evening.

He is the fifth Barnstormer to be picked up by a Major League organization this season, joining Jason Bowers, Scott Patterson, Quincy Foster and Brett Evert. Evert was also signed by the Red Sox and is with Pawtucket.

The Barnstormers also announced the signing of right-hander Christopher Clem. Clem, 22, was signed last year by the St. Louis Cardinals organization and pitched in the New York-Penn League. This season, Clem was 1-1 with a 7.50 ERA in 18 innings for the Road Warriors. He will join the Barnstormers Tuesday night in Long Island.

Following a three-game series in Long Island, the Barnstormers return home on Friday, Aug. 18 for a six-game homestand against the Newark Bears and the Atlantic City Surf. Box seats are sold out for Friday's game against Newark. Lawn seats will be available the day of the game, beginning at 4:00 p.m. Tickets for all other games are available at the Barnstormers box office, by calling 717-509-3633, or online at www.lancasterbarnstormers.com.
