(Portland, ME) - LF Ryan Kalish blasted a walk-off, solo homer into the U.S. Cellular Pavilion down the right-field line with two outs in the 14th inning, giving the Sea Dogs (65-73) a 3-2 win over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (63-76) in the series opener at Hadlock Field. Kalish's walk-off home run was the first for the Sea Dogs since 2006 when Brandon Moss blasted the Sea Dogs in the Eastern League Championship Series.

RHP Josh Papelbon (1-0) earned his first Double-A win with three scoreless innings on two walks and three strikeouts. LHP Nate Starner (1-2) suffered the loss, allowing just one hit (homer to Kalish) and recorded five strikeouts.

Province, LHP Andrew Dobies, RHP Richie Lentz and Papelbon combined for 8 scoreless innings on one hit and 11 strikeouts.

LHP Felix Doubront retired the first 4 batters until a single from 2B Brad Emaus in the second inning. RF Mosies Sierra followed with a double and 3B Al Quintana's sacrifice fly gave New Hampshire a 1-0 lead. LF Nick Gorneault put the visitors in front 2-0 with a run-scoring double-play in the third. Doubront did not figure in the decision, yielding seven hits and two runs over 6 IP.

Kalish put Portland on the board in the third with a sacrifice fly to right field, cutting the deficit to 2-1. LHP Luis Perez allowed one unearned run over 5 IP for the Fisher Cats, surrendering two hits, five walks and six strikeouts.

Portland tied the game in the eighth inning off reliever LHP Wil Ledezma. 3B Jorge Jimenez led off with a double and scored on C Juan Apodaca's infield single. Ledezma surrendered four hits on one run and was charged with a blown save. RHP Danny Farquhar walked two in the 10th inning but 3B Al Quintana started a nifty double-play to end the inning.

The Sea Dogs and Fisher Cats play game 2 of their series on Saturday night from Hadlock Field beginning at 6:00 PM. RHP Ryne Miller (2-2, 1.57) makes his final start of the season against RHP Sean Smith (0-0, 2.53).
