Chesapeake Baysox News Release

BOWIE, Md. - Lou Montanez, 2008 Eastern League triple crown winner, rejoins the Baysox today as part of a major league rehab assignment. The Baltimore Orioles outfielder was placed on the disabled list on May 26, with a thumb injury. Montanez is scheduled to play for the Baysox on Friday, Sept. 4, and Saturday, Sept. 5.

Montanez dominated the Eastern League from left field in Bowie last year, batting .335 with 26 home runs and 97 RBI. In addition to leading the league in batting average and home runs, and tied for the league lead in RBI, Montanez finished with the most extra-base hits (63), runs scored (90) and with the highest slugging percentage (.601). He missed the last 25 games of the season after his promotion to Baltimore on Aug. 5.

With the move, the Baysox currently have 25 active players on the roster. Players on major league rehab assignments do not count against the 24-man limit on the roster.

An updated roster and complete list of transactions is attached.
