Altoona Curve News Release
ALTOONA, Pa - The Altoona Curve closed out their 2009 season on Thursday night with their second-largest crowd of the 2009 season as 7,082 filled Blair County Ballpark to take in the team's Field of Dreams promotion, an in-game ceremony honoring the United States Army 56th Stryker Brigade and a spectacular post-game fireworks show, all of which ended the season on a high note for the Altoona Curve.
After a franchise-record seven rainouts caused attendance numbers to lag in the first half of the season, the Altoona Curve was aided by good weather, a resurgence of quality play on the field and a consistent marketing campaign that reached its broad fan base. Family value plans the organization offered such as the popular Two-for-Tuesday promotion that allowed fans to purchase two tickets, two popcorns and two hot dogs all for the price of one, and unique money-saving nights like the "Road to Savings" campaigns, which tied savings on ticket prices to the team's surge on the field, were well received and powered the Curve's attendance spike in the last 14 games of the season.
Since August 1, the Altoona Curve were able to draw an average of 5,123 fans per night at Blair County Ballpark. Only four of the 14 crowds were less than 4,000.
"It's extremely encouraging to finish the season the way we did," said Altoona Curve General Manager Rob Egan. "The last 14 games of the season are a terrific springboard for us to head into the offseason and plan for what we expect to be an even more successful and value-packed 2010 season."
Of all the encouraging numbers that the Curve experienced with their spike in attendance the last 14 games was the consistent record-setting walk up crowds that flocked to the Blair County Ballpark turnstiles. For the first time in franchise history, the Curve enjoyed nine straight games where they had walk ups of over 1,000 and 10 of the last 12 games 1,000 fans came up to the windows to purchase Curve tickets on the night of the game.
"When we have walk ups like we've had the last 12 games, it simply means that people are starting to catch on to the value we added to the 2009 season," Egan stated. "Fans can expect the same money-saving promotions in 2010."
Fans can already enjoy terrific ticket value with 2010 season tickets now on sale. The Curve are keeping season ticket prices the same for the 2010 season as they were in '09. In addition, fans can save even more on their 2010 season tickets by locking up the best seats at BCB by November 1. Curve fans that renew or purchase 2010 season tickets and pay in full by that date will save as much as $40 per ticket as part of the organization's Early Bird savings plan.
Those interested in purchasing 2010 season tickets can do so by calling 877-99-CURVE, or by stopping by the Altoona Curve front office during normal business hours and speaking with a Curve ticketing associate.
