
Soliman & Ray Lead Snappers to Shutout

BELOIT, WI - A big two-run home run from Lance Ray in the fourth inning and a seven inning dominant performance from starting pitcher Manuel Soliman led to the Snappers defeating the Clinton LumberKings 5-0 Sunday afternoon. Soliman only allowed seven hits, struck out four and walked none while picking up his fifth win of the year.
For Ray, his home run was his eighth of the year and his two RBI now give him 39. In that fourth inning, the Snappers (10-7) would score four times including and RBI single from Jairo Perez and an RBI sac-fly from Daniel Ortiz. Andrew Leer would double and later score in the seventh inning to close out the scoring.
The LumberKings (10-7) weren't completely quiet on offense as Mickey Wiswall and Stefen Romero both contributed two hits in the losing effort. The LumberKings and Snappers are now tied for second in the Midwest League Western Division standings at 10-7, 2.0 games behind the Kane County Cougars (12-5).
Jairo Perez was the only Snapper with two hits (2-for-3) has he continues to torment MWL pitchers as his batting average raised from .404 to .412. He also added his 28th RBI of the season.
Soliman (4-5, 3.95 ERA) exited after seven innings of shut out baseball and gave way to Nelvin Fuentes who pitched the final two innings and gave up no hits and struck out two.
The "Brodie Trophy Player of the Game," goes to Manuel Soliman who shut out the LumberKings for seven innings, scattering seven hits, allowing no runs or walks and struck out four. He's now 4-5 on the season.
Tomorrow, the Snappers and LumberKings close out their three-game series at Pohlman Field starting at 7:00pm. A.J. Achter will take the ball for the Snappers against Anthony Fernandez for Clinton.
