BELOIT, WI - Jairo Perez lived to up the award that he received last week as the Midwest League's ‘Hitter of the Week,' as he hit two home runs tonight against the Clinton LumberKings. It wasn't enough as the Snappers blew another early led and ended up losing 8-5. Perez's batting average is now a team-high .404 and led the team today with three RBI.

The Snappers fell in an 2-0 hole before knotting the game back up in the bottom half of the first inning thanks to the first of two home runs from Perez. He took the offering from Clinton starter Nate Reed and sent it well over the wall in left-center field. It also scored Adam Bryant, who reached on a single.

After starter Blayne Weller exited the game in the fourth inning, Andrei Lobanov came in to try and keep the LumberKings close. He proved to be ineffective tonight as he allowed six earned runs and suffered his seventh loss on the season (0-7, 6.79 ERA). His first two batters both hit home runs off of him as Anthony Phillips and Kevin Rivers went back-to-back to start the fifth inning and give the LumberKings the 4-3 lead.

Then again in the sixth and seventh innings, Lobanov allowed two earned runs in each inning to give them the 8-4 lead. The Snappers would score once again in the eighth inning on Lance Ray's sacrifice fly scored Perez to finish the scoring at 8-5 and sent the Snappers to 9-7 on the second half, now behind both the Kane County Cougars and Clinton LumberKings in the MWL Western Division standings.

Michael Tonkin would finish the remaining 2 1/3 innings of the game for Beloit, allowing only one hit and striking out two. Offensively, Tobias Streich hit his third home run of the year in the third inning and finished 2-for-4 with the HR and RBI. Daniel Santana would be the only other Snapper with a multi-hit game as he was 2-for-4 on the night with two singles.

For the LumberKings (10-6), Nate Reed picked up his second win of the year on his first start of the season, spending most 2011 in the bullpen. He went five innings, gave up three earned runs on five hits and struck out four. Mike McGee and Tim Morris both led the way with three hits, as Morris was 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI.

The "Brodie Trophy Player of the Game" was Jairo Perez, who launched two home runs to give him eight on the season. His batting average is .404 on the year and has knocked in 27 RBI while pacing the Snappers offense since he was called up on June 7.

The Snappers and LumberKings continue their three-game series tomorrow afternoon at Pohlman Field starting at 2:00 pm. For Clinton, George Mieses (3-9, 5.38 ERA) will square off against Manuel Soliman (3-5, 4.32 ERA) for the Snappers.
