MIDLAND, MI - After seeing the score tied on three separate occasions, the Great Lakes Loons eventually fought off a pesky Fort Wayne team on Sunday afternoon, winning 10-7 before 3,940 fans at Dow Diamond to tie the three-game series at 1-1.

With the score even at 5-5, the big inning for the Loons came in the seventh, jump-started by Bobby Coyle's two-run homer that scored Leon Landry, who tripled to lead-off the inning.

"Leon and Casio did a heck of a job ahead of me [all night], just setting the table and getting on base, and being aggressive base runners," Coyle said, who also hit two sacrifice flies earlier in the game. "And [in that situation] you have to look to hit the ball hard and Lord-willing something good will come out of it."

Coyle ripped Deiber Sanchez's pitch deep down the right field line and finished the game two-for-three with one run and four RBI. The Loons continued to pour on three more runs in the seventh, as Chris Henderson hit an RBI-single, designated hitter Michael Pericht laced an RBI-double and Jesse Bosnik hit a sacrifice fly to make it 10-5. The TinCaps chipped back with runs in the eighth and ninth innings, but the deficit proved too great.

Early on, both team's offense seemed to be mimicking the other: both scoring their initial run on an errant play; grabbing their second run on a sacrifice fly; and then finding three runs in the fifth inning. The Loons five-spot in the seventh finally broke the trend.

Starting on the hill for the Loons was right-handed Dominican Angel Sanchez, who allowed four runs, three earned, on five hits through 4.1 innings. Sanchez walked none and struck out three before being relieved by Bret Montgomery in the fifth. Montgomery allowed two runs in the fifth, one of which was charged to Sanchez, before settling in to pitch 2.2 innings of relief and pick up his third win of the season. Ryan Acosta closed out the final two innings for the Loons, allowing two runs, one unearned.

The Loons out hit Fort Wayne 14-13, as Casio Grider and Leon Landry led the team with three-hit performances. Landry finished with two stand-up triples, making him the league-leader with eight on the season.

The Loons will try to win the three-game series against the Fort Wayne TinCaps on Monday. Starting for the Loons will be RHP Garrett Gould (9-3, 1.86) against Fort Wayne's RHP Keyvius Sampson (7-2, 3.38). It's 4H Night at Dow Diamond Monday, which will feature live animals and several interactive booths set up on the concourse.

The Great Lakes Loons are a fifth-year Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and members of the Midwest League. For more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com or call 989-837-BALL.
