Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

Bandit starter Zach Russell (5-7) dominated Wisconsin hitters on Saturday night allowing just three hits in seven innings of work. The right-hander struck out six and walked only one. Russell has now won four of his last five starts after winning only one game in his first nine starts.

Offensively, the River Bandits collected nine hits in the game including two solo home runs in the second inning. Cody Stanley (1-for-3) hit his fourth homer of the year, one of two runs he scored in the game. Two batters later, Packy Elkins (1-for-4) went deep for the first time this season to give the Bandits a 3-0 lead. The Bandits scored one more run in the fourth inning when Ronny Gil (1-for-4) doubled home Stanley. The Bandits held on to win 4-0.

Russell was opposed by Wisconsin starter Brooks Hall (4-2). He went just 3 2/3 innings allowing four runs, three earned, on seven hits while walking two and striking out two in the losing effort.

The Bandits return to action Sunday, when they look to lock-in a series win the Timber Rattlers. The Bandits will send right-hander Boone Whiting (1-1, 1.76) to oppose Wisconsin righty Jimmy Nelson (4-7, 4.54). First pitch is set for 2 p.m. at Modern Woodmen Park.
