
Solar Bears to Host Youth Street Hockey Tournament on Saturday

Orlando Solar Bears News Release
The Orlando Solar Bears will host their first Youth Street Hockey Tournament for the Mites (5-8 years old) age group on Saturday, November 12, prior to the Solar Bears game that evening against the South Carolina Stingrays. The tournament will feature eight youth teams, split into two divisions - Advanced and Recreational - and will be played on Church Street right in front of the Amway Center, on the Solar Bears' brand-new inflatable street hockey rink !
Each team may be comprised of between six to 10 children between the ages of 5-8, including (at least) one goaltender. Children will be required to have the following equipment to participate: sneakers, a full-caged helmet and a hockey stick.
The tournament check-in will begin at 11 a.m. on the day of the event, with the first game kicking off at 12 p.m. Each division will play a round-robin format, guaranteeing each team a minimum of three games. Following round-robin play, the top two teams in their respective divisions will face off once again for the championship game. Championship games for each division will be played at 4 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. The winning teams from the championship games will also be recognized during the Solar Bears game that evening.

Games will consist of two eight-minute periods, with a two-minute intermission in between periods The clock will run continuously until the last minute of the second period If the game is tied after two periods, a sudden-death shootout will occur (first team to score while the other does not) All penalties will result in a penalty shot No offsides or icing
Additional rules will be released prior to the tournament.
