October 11, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
KALAMAZOO, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings, proud ECHL affiliates of the Tampa Bay Lightning, have traded future considerations to the Toledo Walleye in exchange for forward Austin Wuthrich.
The 23-year-old native of Anchorage, Alaska joins the Wings after completing his rookie season with Toledo in 2015-16. The right-hand-shooting forward skated in 53 games with last year's regular-season Eastern Conference champions and was able to rack up 28 points on 15 goals and 13 assists.
"He delivered as a rookie on a very skilled offensive team last year," head coach Nick Bootland said. "And he plays big."
Before turning pro, Wuthrich spent two seasons with the USA National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor, then began a four-year career at Notre Dame. While with the Fighting Irish, the 6-foot-1, 205-pound Wuthrich appeared in 146 games and punched in 56 points (28 goals, 28 assists).
The newest K-Wing was drafted by the Washington Capitals in the fourth round (107th overall) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
Wuthrich and the Wings will begin the 2016-17 regular season on Friday, October 14 against the Norfolk Admirals at the Norfolk Scope Arena. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m., with coverage beginning at 7:15 p.m. on AM 1660 The Fan in Kalamazoo.
The Kalamazoo Wings host their 43rd annual home opener on Friday, October 21, as they entertain the Fort Wayne Komets. The game features a Fan Fest- a free event with your purchased ticket- which begins at 5:30 p.m. and features local food trucks, craft beer, games, and live music.
