Fort Wayne, IN-- The Komets turned back the visiting Brampton Beast Monday night on Sweetwater Ice at the Memorial Coliseum 4-2. It was the third and final exhibition game with the Komets going 2-1-0 in the preseason.
Defenseman Curtis Leonard opened the scoring 33 seconds into the first period. Forwards Taylor Crunk, Shawn Szydlowski and Kyle Thomas also scored for Fort Wayne. Eric Hartzell and Pat Nagle shared time in the Komet net. Hartzell stopped 19 of 20 shots and Nagle made nine saves on 10 shots in regulation for the win.
The Komets also scored a 5-2 win on Fort Wayne ice against Indy Saturday after stumbling 4-3 in the preseason opener at Indy Friday.
The Komets will take this week to prepare for the season opener at Quad City Friday. Both teams will return to Fort Wayne Saturday for the Komets' home opener at the Coliseum at 7:30pm. Fans are asked to arrive early for pregame festivities.
The Fort Wayne roster sits at 24 players including 14 forwards, eight defensemen and two goaltenders. Only one player, Trevor Cheek, remains in the Tucson AHL training camp.
65th Home Opener Saturday, Oct. 15-- The Komets will open 2016-17 with a home-and-home series against the Quad City Mallards starting Friday, Oct. 14 at Quad City. Both teams return to Fort Wayne for the Komets' 65th home opener Saturday, Oct. 15 at 7:30pm at the Memorial Coliseum.
