San Antonio Assigns Goaltenders Lieuwen and Simpson

WINDSOR, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles, proud affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche, announced Tuesday that goaltenders Nathan Lieuwen and Kent Simpson have been assigned to the Eagles by the team's AHL affiliate the San Antonio Rampage.

Lieuwen is a former 6th round pick of the Buffalo Sabres and appeared in seven NHL contests with the Sabres during the 2013-14 season. The 6-foot-5, 190 pound netminder has also played in 80 AHL games with the Rampage and the Rochester Americans. Lieuwen spent five seasons in the WHL with the Kootenay Ice, helping the team capture a WHL Championship in 2011 and was named the WHL Playoff MVP during that same season.

Simpson will be enjoying his second stint with the Eagles after being assigned to the team by the Calgary Flames and appearing in three games with Colorado during the 2014-15 season. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound goaltender is a former second round draft pick of the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2010 NHL Draft. The Edmonton, Alberta native has appeared in 49 games in the AHL with the Rockford IceHogs, Bridgeport Sound Tigers and Adirondack Thunder. He also played in one NHL game with the Blackhawks during the 2013-14 campaign.

In other transactions, the Eagles have released forwards Adam Wiertzema and Levi Weber, along with goaltenders Tate Maris and Chris Mason, as well as defenseman Phil Tesoriero.
