
Solar Bears Close Road Trip with 5-2 Loss

Greenville, SC - The Solar Bears battled to a 3-2 score after two periods of play but fell 5-2 to the Greenville Road Warriors at the BI-LO Center on Friday night.
Greenville opened up the scoring for the second straight game, as the Road Warriors struck 15:56 into the opening frame. F Levi Nelson led a 2-on-1 rush into the zone and snapped to pass to F Bretton Cameron who was crashing the right goal post for a quick-strike marker. It was the only goal of the first period, as the Road Warriors took the 1-0 lead into the first intermssion.
RW Dan Gendur evened the score at 1-1 early in the second. C Darick Ste-Marie dropped off a puck to Gendur on top of the right circle, and Gendur slapped the puck past Greenville G Nathan Lieuwen 3:36 into the second stanza. F C.J. Severyn put the Solar Bears ahead 2-1 exactly eight minutes later, and C Mathew Sisca fed a pass to him on the left goal post for a power play marker. D Bretton Stamler answered for Greenville during 4-on-4 action, netting a rebound off of a F Danny Hobbs wrap-around chance with 6:37 to play in the frame. The Road Warriors regained the lead before the end of the second period when F Brendan Connolly connected with F Jordie Johnston who lifted the puck over a sprawling G John Curry on a 2-on-1 chance with 1:01 left in the period.
The score remained 3-2 favoring the Road Warriors until late in the final frame. Six seconds into a power play, F Brandon Wong forced a turnover in the slot and wristed the puck into the back of the net with 4:01 remaining in the third to put Greenville ahead 4-2. Johnston added his second goal of the night on an empty-netter with 1:58 remaining to play to grant Greenville the 5-2 victory.
