Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, today announced that the Bears have recalled forwards Barry Almeida, Alex Berry and Matt Pope from Reading. In a separate transaction also announced today, the Royals activated forward David Civitarese from the Reserve List.
This is Almeida's first recall from Reading since being loaned to the team by Hershey on November 21. Almeida, a first year pro from Springfield, Massachusetts, recorded his fourth multi-point performance as a Royal when he picked up a pair of assists in last night's 5-4 shootout loss to the Wheeling Nailers. In twenty-one games with the Royals, Almeida registered nineteen points (7g-12a) and ten penalty minutes. Berry, a third year pro from Danvers, Massachusetts, was loaned to Reading by the Bears for the second time this season on Wednesday. He scored on his first shot back with the team that night-an early first goal in what proved to be a 4-1 win for Reading that night-and engaged in a late game tilt. In fifteen games with the Royals this year, Berry has recorded eleven points (5g-6a) and thirty penalty minutes. Pope, a fifth year pro from Langley, British Columbia, was also assigned to Reading for the second time last Wednesday. He has played three games with the Royals, scoring once and assisting on another. Civitarese returns to action after sustaining an injury in his fourth game with Reading on October 26, 2012. He has recorded one assist in his time with the Royals so far.
The Royals take on the Wheeling Nailers tonight (Saturday, January 12, 2013 @ 7:0 pm) at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, West Virginia. Tomorrow's game will be televised locally in Berks County, PA, on BCTV courtesy of Boscov's Travel and Apple Vacations. The Game Night Broadcast kicks off at 6:30 pm tomorrow on CBS Sports Radio (1240 am and 98.5 fm).
