A Titan Among Titans

Military Appreciation Day fitting for Alvarez's final professional game

While all sports have them, hockey corners the market on class acts. So does the U.S. Military. Trenton has been fortunate to have one from both.

Second Lt. Marcel Alvarez (West Point '12) plays his (probable) final pro hockey game tonight, as he leaves for Ranger and Airborne School in Fort Benning, GA, after the final horn against South Carolina.

Respected from the second he came here, Alvarez joined the Titans for a Midwest trip last year. While classmates left to enjoy Spring Break, he spent his wanting to play hockey. So when the Titans offered, he jumped at it. We are glad he did.

Even this season he commuted from West Point for weeks to play here before his deployment. A movie combination of toughness, humility and talent, he was a graceful representative of the Army, this sport and this organization.

Our thanks to the Army and West Point for allowing us to have him, if only briefly. We wish Marcel safety and success wherever he (and his future outfit) goes. We are better for have had known him...he will always be a Titan.
