Orlando Solar Bears News Release
ORLANDO, Fla. - The Orlando Solar Bears, proud affiliate of the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs and AHL's Toronto Marlies, announced today that the club has acquired defenseman Mark Louis from the Idaho Steelheads in exchange for forward Joe Basaraba. The team has also released defenseman Mike Krieg from his tryout agreement.
Louis (LEW-iss), 28, joins the Solar Bears after splitting 41 games with the AHL's Portland Pirates and Bridgeport Sound Tigers in the 2014-15 season, in which the blueliner tallied three assists and 95 penalty minutes. In 181 career AHL contests, Louis has recorded one goal, 14 assists and 367 penalty minutes.
Louis originally joined the Pirates on a professional tryout after four years at St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia, Canada. In April 2012, he signed a one-year contract with the Phoenix Coyotes, and he signed a new two-year, two-way deal with the team in 2013.
