New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
BOWIE, MD - The Fisher Cats exploded for four early runs against the Bowie Baysox on Saturday night, backing John Stilson to a 5-3 victory in his Double-A debut. The win snaps a season-long eight-game losing streak and gives New Hampshire (23-43) the chance to win a series on Sunday afternoon for the first time in nearly a month.
After allowing four runs in the first inning in the opener on Friday, the Fisher Cats returned the favor with early runs on Saturday. Three straight hitters reached to begin the game, loading the bases for a two-run single by Mark Sobolewski. An inning later, Justin Jackson drove home his third run of the series before a sac fly from Brian Bocock made it 4-0.
Stilson took over from there, spinning a gem in his Double-A debut. The righty allowed just three hits over 5.0 scoreless innings. He struck out two without issuing a walk, becoming the first member of the Blue Jays' 2011 draft class to make it to Double-A. The righty is now 4-0 on the season after earning three wins in 13 starts for Advanced-A Dunedin.
After Stilson left, Sam Dyson worked a pair of scoreless innings, extending his streak to 13 frames without giving up a run.
In the eighth, Brian Van Kirk padded New Hampshire's lead to 5-0 with a two-out run-scoring single to right. Bowie (31-35) scored three in the bottom of the eighth before Scott Gracey was able to close it out to end the losing streak.
