Gorski Roughed up in 7-1 Loss

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Altoona Curve racked up twelve his, including ten against Darin Gorski, to defeat the Binghamton Mets 7-1 Saturday night at NYSEG Stadium. The Curve used a pair of three-run innings to collect the win and even the three-game series.

Altoona jumped on Gorski in the second with three straight hits. Ramon Cabrera and Jeremy Farrell started the frame with singles. Evan Chambers got the Curve on the board with an RBI double. The visiting club added to their lead with two consecutive sac flies.

The Curve doubled their lead with another three-run output in the fourth. Cabrera started the rally again with a single and Farrell blasted a two-run homer to left. Chambers followed suit with a solo homer, giving Altoona a 6-0 lead. It was the first time the Curve have hit back-to-back home runs since June 2, 2011.

Cabrera, Farrell and Chambers led the offensive charge for Altoona. The three combined to go 8-for-13 with a double, two home runs, six runs scored and five RBI.

Offensively, Binghamton collected eight hits, but never had more than one in any inning. The B-Mets sent four batters to the plate in every inning outside of the first, when they were put down in order.

Altoona starter Kyle McPherson (1-0), making his first start of the season since returning from a two-month stay on the disabled list with shoulder inflammation, allowed just one run and scattered four hits over five innings in the win.

The B-Mets scored their only run in the fourth. Dustin Martin walked with two outs and swiped second, his second stolen base as a B-Met. Rylan Sandoval drove him home with a single up the middle. It was Sandoval's fifth straight at bat with a hit, dating back to Friday night.

Reliever Mike Colla allowed three hits over three scoreless innings, including a three-pitch eighth. Vic Black closed things out in the ninth, working around a leadoff double by Eric Campbell in a shutout inning.

Gorski (4-4) matched a season-high with ten hits allowed in the loss. Brandon Moore surrendered a run over two innings of relief. Edgar Ramirez and Brad Holt each tossed a shutout inning to close Binghamton's pitching tab.

The B-Mets (31-33) look to take the rubber match against the Curve Sunday afternoon at 1:05 PM. RHP Greg Peavey takes the ball for Binghamton against RHP Shairon Martis. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pre-game show begins at 12:50 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
