Chesapeake Baysox News Release
HARRISBURG, Penn. - First baseman Brandon Snyder hit a grand slam and drove in another run with an RBI single as the Baysox held on to defeat Harrisburg 8-6. The Baysox scored the first eight runs of the night, but Harrisburg continued to fight back before Josh Perrault came on close it out for his fourth save of the season.
The Baysox struck first off Senators starter Adrian Alaniz. Center fielder Danny Figueroa led off the inning with a single, his first hit since April 23 after missing almost a month with a dislocated finger. Shortstop Robert Valido reached on an error by right fielder Marvin Lowrance and left fielder Dave Krynzel followed with a single to right to load the bases. One batter later, Snyder took Alaniz deep to center field for the first Baysox grand slam of the season. It was the first grand slam by a Baysox hitter since current Baltimore Orioles slugger Nolan Reimold did it against Akron on September 4 of last season.
The offense added to their lead in the fourth, as the Baysox added another four spot off Alaniz. Second baseman Miguel Abreu and catcher Guillermo Rodriguez singled to start the inning. Figueroa drew a walk to load the bases with nobody out for Valido. The Baysox shortstop singled on a line drive off the foot of Alaniz, allowing a run to score and keeping the bases loaded for Krynzel. Alaniz was forced to leave the game, and left-hander Dave Williams came on to strike out Krynzel for the first out of the inning. Designated hitter Brandon Pinckney lifted a sacrifice fly to right, plating Rodriguez as Figueroa advanced to third. Snyder followed with a pop to the shortstop that fell in safely allowing Figueroa to score and giving Snyder his league leading 36th RBI of the season. Third baseman Michael Costanzo followed with a double to score Valido and put the Baysox on top 8-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning.
Harrisburg refused to go quietly against Baysox starter Bobby Livingston. Matt Whitney and Lowrance singled with two outs in the fourth to give the Senators a chance to get on the board. Luke Montz followed with a double to right, scoring Whitney and putting runners at second and third. A two out two-run single by Jhonatan Solano made the score 8-3 before Livingston induced Michael Martinez to ground out to end the inning.
Harrisburg would add a run in the sixth on an RBI double by Solano to cut the Baysox lead to four. He would finish the inning before turning it over to right-hander Fredy Deza. Livingston picked up his team-leading fifth win of the season, allowing four earned runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out five. The Baysox left-hander has picked up the win in each of his last four starts, while his ERA now stands at 3.80 in eight starts this season.
Deza worked a perfect seventh and eighth inning before running into trouble in the ninth as Montz doubled to start the inning. One batter later, pinch hitter Leonard Davis took Deza deep for a two-run homer to bring the Senators within two. Manager Brad Komminsk pulled Deza in favor of Josh Perrault, who struck out Michael Daniel before getting Ofilio Castro to ground out to first to end the game. Perrault has joined left-hander Wilfrido Perez to form a devastating one-two punch in the back end of the Baysox bullpen. The right-hander lowered his ERA to 1.90 for the season and has converted on each of his last four save opportunities.
The win brings the Baysox back to .500 at 20-20, 0.5 games behind Reading for third place in the Eastern League South. LHP Troy Patton (4-1, 1.14 ERA) looks to earn his fifth win of the season tomorrow against Senators LHP Justin Jones (2-5, 4.25 ERA). Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
