Altoona Curve News Release
Both starting pitchers turned in fine efforts, but a four run sixth inning left the Curve on the losing end of a 5-3 ballgame in game one of Saturday's doubleheader at Blair County Ballpark.
Curve starter Mike Crotta pitched five innings with one run allowed on four hits but did not factor in the decision.
Reading manufactured the first run of the ballgame in the third inning when Quintin Berry singled, then stole second before being singled in by Michael Taylor.
The Curve answered in the fifth when Jamie Romak came up in a pinch hitting effort with the bases loaded and slapped a single to right field to tie the game at one.
Reading picked up four runs in the sixth, the first on a fielder's choice and the second on a pinch hit single by Mike Spidale. The next two runs scored on a hit by Berry.
Jonel Pacheco cracked his fourth home run of the season in the bottom half of the sixth, the two run shot pulled the Curve with two, 5-3. The Curve had two men on with the winning run at the plate in the seventh but could not convert.
