ENTERING TONIGHT'S ACTION...
Tonight, the battle of the top two teams in the Eastern League continues as the SeaWolves take on the Akron Aeros (Cleveland Indians) in the second game of a four-game series at Canal Park. The 'Wolves took the series opener last night with a thrilling 1-0 victory. Lefty Jon Kibler received only one run of support in the second inning but put the club on his shoulders as he tossed 8.2 scoreless innings. It was the furthest an Erie pitcher has gone in a game this season. The win puts the SeaWolves 5.5 games behind the first place Aeros who hold the league's top record at 29-10. Erie had dropped two straight and six of eight heading into the off-day on Thursday. The Aeros are
7-3 in their last 10. Last night's win also brought the SeaWolves road record to a game under .500 at 8-9. The 'Wolves are also four games ahead of third place Reading who has lost five straight. Erie and Akron are the only teams in the division above .500...Righty Alfredo Figaro takes the mound for the 'Wolves and is coming off of his first loss of the season. He makes his seventh start of the season and first against Akron. In his last start at Bowie, Figaro equaled a season-best seven innings pitched allowing three runs, two earned, on seven hits with five strikeouts and a season-high four walks. Figaro has scuffled in May. In three May starts, he is 0-1 with two no-decisions and a 4.19 ERA...Lefty Ryan Edell takes the mound for the Aeros making his fourth appearance and third start. He picked up a win in his last start against Altoona going five scoreless innings, allowing three hits with no walks and five strikeouts...RHP Jonah Nickerson has been moved to the bullpen. Pat Stanley will take his spot in the rotation.
