Phillies sweep doubleheader

ALTOONA, PA - Reading jumped all over Altoona early and never looked back completing a sweep of Saturday's doubleheader with a 5-0 win in game two at Blair County Ballpark.

In the first inning Michael Taylor singled home Brad Harman and then two batters later Harman scored on a single by Neil Sellers. The Phillies added two more runs in the second when Michael Spidale connected for an RBI triple and then scored on a single by Harman.

Alex Concepcion (1-1) totally silenced the Curve bats taking a no hitter through 4.1 innings on his way to his first win of the 2009 season.

Altoona (14-28) will try to even the series Sunday night against Reading (21-19) behind the arm of left hander Daniel Moskos (2-3, 4.31), Reading will have RHP Tyson Brummett (1-5, 5.66) on the mound. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. with radio coverage beginning at 5:35 p.m. on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network.

Following Sunday night's game fans will be treating to a spectacular fireworks display. Both starting pitchers turned in fine efforts, but a four run sixth inning left the Curve on the losing end of a 5-3 ballgame in game one of Saturday's doubleheader at Blair County Ballpark.

Curve starter Mike Crotta pitched five innings with one run allowed on four hits but did not factor into the decision.

Reading manufactured the first run of the ballgame in the third inning when Quintin Berry singled, then stole second before being singled in by Michael Taylor.

The Curve answered in the fifth when Jamie Romak came up in a pinch hitting effort with the bases loaded and slapped a single to right field to tie the game at one.

Reading picked up four runs in the sixth, the first on a fielder's choice and the second on a pinch hit single by Mike Spidale. The next two runs scored on a hit by Berry.

Jonel Pacheco cracked his fourth home run of the season in the bottom half of the sixth, the two run shot pulled the Curve with two, 5-3, but they would get no closer despite bringing the potential winning run to the plate in the seventh.
