Snappers Sweep LumberKings
July 20, 2015 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Beloit Sky Carp News Release
BELOIT, Wisc.- The Beloit Snappers beat the Clinton LumberKings by a score of 5-1 on Monday afternoon, as Heath Fillmyer earned his first win of the season.
Clinton looked like they were going to be able to snap out of the losing streak when they got on the board in the top of the first. Pat Leyland doubled (2) on a fly ball to left field that scored Chris Mariscal after he had reached base on an error by Beloit's Tim Proudfoot.
Once Beloit got up to bat, it was all downhill for the LumberKings as the Snappers scored five unanswered runs throughout the game.
In the bottom of the first, Yairo Munoz singled on a line drive to left field to bring in Joe Bennie to tie the game up at 1-1.
After that, it was smooth sailing as Max Kuhn scored when Clinton's Jarrett Brown walked Bennie with the bases loaded. Kuhn brought in a run of his own in the sixth by hitting a line drive single to left field to plate Munoz.
Leading 3-1, Beloit added a few insurance runs in the eighth when Jose Brizuela singled on a ground ball to center field to score Sandber Pimentel after he had walked. Then Trent Gilbert hit a sacrifice fly to right field that allowed Brizuela to score, making the final score 5-1.
The Snappers not only swept this series against the LumberKings but they also didn't allow Clinton to win any of their six games at Pohlman Field in 2015.
Fillmyer entered the game at 0-8 for the season but pitched extremely well against a struggling Clinton team to get his first win of the year and hand the LumberKings their 11th consecutive loss.
The Beloit Snappers are 38-56 on the season and 12-12 in the second half after earning their fourth straight win. The Snappers start a three game series with the Burlington Bees in Beloit at Pohlman Field tomorrow night at 7:00 PM. Gates open at 6:00 PM.
