Dayton Dragons News Release
Dayton, Ohio-Dayton starting pitcher Tyler Mahle combined with two relievers on a three-hit shutout as the Dragons defeated the Fort Wayne TinCaps 1-0 on Monday night. The Dragons completed a sweep of the three-game series with the win and extended their home winning streak to eight straight, two short of the club record.
Mahle (10-5) fired seven scoreless innings, matching a career high with nine strikeouts. He allowed just two hits with two walks. The TinCaps did not advance a runner past second base against Mahle.
The Dragons scored the game's only run in the bottom of the sixth inning, getting a pair of walks before an infield single by Shed Long loaded the bases with one out. Gavin LaValley drove in the run with a grounder to third to drive in Luis Gonzalez.
Left-hander Ty Sterner, making his first appearance since joining the Dragons from Billings on Saturday, worked a perfect eighth inning, notching a strikeout.
Conor Krauss came in to pitch the ninth. He allowed a lead-off single to Ruddy Giron, who advanced to second on a groundout to shortstop. Trae Santos then launched a high, deep drive to center field. Dayton's Narciso Crook got a good break on the ball and made an excellent running catch for the second out of the inning, saving the lead. Franmil Reyes then swung at strike three in the dirt, and catcher Garrett Boulware's throw to first base completed the shutout.
The Dragons finished with only three hits, the same number as the TinCaps. Long was 2 for 4.
