
Bees Swept by Peoria

(Burlington-IA)- The Burlington Bees (44-50) lost to the Peoria Chiefs (49-44), 6-3 in the finale of a three game series, Monday night at Community Field in Burlington.
Peoria opened the scoring in the first inning when Paul DeJong reached on a single and moved to third on an error, coming home to score on a Alex DeLeon sacrifice fly, giving the Chiefs a 1-0 lead. The Chiefs added to the lead in the third inning. Paul DeJong picked up his second hit of the game and later scored on an Alex DeLeon single, upping the Chiefs' lead to 2-0.
Peoria's big inning came in fifth and was started by a Nick Thompson triple. With one out, Luis Cruz slapped a double, scoring Thompson. After a walk to Kenny Peoples-Walls, Oscar Mercado smacked a double to right, scoring Cruz and Peoples-Walls, pushing the Peoria lead to 5-0. The Chiefs' tacked on another in the sixth in a Cruz single, scoring Thompson, giving Peoria a 6-0 lead.
Tim Arakawa got the sixth inning going with a double, his fifth of the season. The next batter, Jake Yacinich, hit a slow roller out in front of home plate, which was thrown away by Matt Pearce, allowing Arakawa to score and Yacinich to moved to second. After a Trever Allen single put runners at the corners, Steven Mateo hit into a double play, scoring Yacinich, pulling the Bees to with in four, at 6-2. The Bees got their third run of the night in the seventh inning on a Wade Wass home run but that was as close as the Bees got, losing 6-3.
Peoria starter, Matt Pearce (6-9) earned the win, Bees' starter, Austin Robichaux (7-4) was charged with the loss while Kyle Grana (14) picked up the save. The Bees head to Beloit to start a three game series with the Beloit Snappers, Tuesday night at 7:00. Jake Jewell makes the start for the Bees against Daniel Gossett for Beloit.
