Snappers Shutout 9-0 in Burlington

Burlington, IA - Ivan Andueza never made it out of a seven-run third inning as the Beloit Snappers (21-24) fell to the Burlington Bees (21-27) 9-0 Sunday afternoon in game three of a four-game series.

Between Andueza and reliver Heath Bowers, the Snappers surrendered seven runs on five hits, four walks and a hit-by-pitch in the third inning. All nine Bees were able to reach base.

With the score 4-0, Bees right fielder Jimmy Barnes belted his first double of the season to right to clear the bases and blow the game wide open. Sunday was Barnes' first game of the season with Burlington and he finished 1-for-2 with two runs and three RBI.

A night after scoring 10 runs, the Snappers only managed four hits and a single extra-base hit. First baseman Hunter Hargrove, coming off a 4-for-5 night with a career high three home runs and seven RBI, went 0-for-4 and pitched the eighth inning surrendering two late runs.

Starter Andueza, coming off a 6.2 innings, zero earned run affair against Peoria last week, threw 57 pitches but just 27 for strikes in his second loss of the season.

Heath Bowers and Josh Reagan pitched 3.1 innings after Andueza and gave up just one hit. Hargrove let up three hits and two runs his inning.

On the mound for the Bees was right-hander Isaac Mattson, who went five innings of three hit ball, had two strikeouts and did not yield a run. It was Mattson's second consecutive win and his second win against the Snappers this season.

Snappers catcher Jordan Devencenzi went 1-for-4 and has now hit safely in 12 consecutive games. He is hitting .362 with a home run and eight RBI over that span.

Jesus Lopez got a hit and has now hit in 17 of his last 21 games, with a .303 batting average, three home runs and 15 RBI in that time.

Trace Loehr could not continue his eight-game hitting streak, going 0-4 Sunday. During his streak that began on May 15th, he batted .394 with 13 hits in 33 at bats.

A Jack Meggs double also gave the Snappers their only extra-base hit of the game. It meant the Snappers have hit at least one extra-base hit in 31 of their last 32 games.

The Snappers will wrap up their four-game series Monday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. On the mound for the Snappers will be right-hander Wyatt Marks (3-4, 4.71). He will be opposed by right-hander Oliver Ortega (2-0, 0.00)
