Davenport, IA - The Quad Cities River Bandits collected 14 hits including a pair of home runs as they handled the Peoria Chiefs by an 8-3 score on Sunday evening at Modern Woodmen Park. The win allowed the River Bandits to take a half-game lead in the Western Division over Clinton.

The River Bandits found themselves with an early advantage after a big first inning. Jake Meyers led off with a single, moved to second on a wild pitch, and was quickly joined on base by Bryan De La Cruz who walked. Corey Julks followed with a base hit into left that scored Meyers. De La Cruz raced toward third and the throw from left fielder Bryce Denton was low and bounced all the way to the backstop behind the plate. De La Cruz stood up and sprinted home to score a second run on the play. Later in the frame, Michael Papierski launched a two-run home run onto the Miller Lite Party Deck above the right field wall. The home run was his second of the season and increased the lead to 4-0.

Quad Cities tallied again in the third inning. Papierski was hit by a pitch to reach and then advanced to second on an error when second baseman Irving Lopez dropped the throw from catcher Dennis Ortega on his attempted steal. Roman Garcia capitalized by driving in Papierski with a base hit into right field to increase the advantage to 5-0.

Peoria made it much closer in the fifth inning. J.R. Davis opened the inning with a double and went to third on a single from Irving Lopez. Yariel Gonzalez put Peoria on the board with a single, cutting the deficit to 5-1. With two outs, Elehuris Montero yanked a two-run double into the left field corner to close the gap to 5-3.

The Chiefs would not score again, but the Bandits tacked on some insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth. Papierski led off with a single that was followed by a two-run blast to left from Colton Shaver.  The home run was Shaver's fifth of the year. Before the frame came to an end, Bryan De La Cruz added an RBI single to left, pushing the margin to 8-3.

Meyers paced the River Bandits with three hits, while five other players joined him with multiple knocks. Papierski was 2-2 with two RBI and three runs scored, De La Cruz went 2-2 with three walks, and Jonathan Lacroix was 2-2 with two walks.

Parker Mushinski, the starter, pitched 5.0 innings and allowed three runs on eight hits.  He struck out three and walked two on his way to picking up the win. Adam Bleday came out of the bullpen and worked 3.0 scoreless innings, collecting four strikeouts and walking one. Carlos Sanabria closed the game with a scoreless ninth inning.

The River Bandits (28-22) and Chiefs (25-23) close out the five-game set on Monday night at 5:15 p.m. RHP Leovanny Rodriguez (2-0, 1.00) will start for the Bandits with RHP Johan Oviedo (1-4, 7.34) opposing for Peoria.
