Snappers Fall to Cougars 3-2

Beloit's streak of dramatic one-run victories over Kane County ended Friday night as the Cougars defeated the Snappers 3-2 Friday night.

The Snappers had won six-straight games against Kane County, including three one-run games and two walk-off home runs before Friday's loss.

Beloit only recorded three hits on the night, but remained in the ballgame due to a multitude of Cougar runners stranded on base.

Kane County struck early as some savvy baserunning translated into the first run of the game.

Jake Hannemann led off the contest with a single to left field and proceeded to steal second and third base. Yasiel Balaguert provided the RBI-single to score Hannemann and Jacob Rogers added another RBI-single to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead.

The Snappers answered in the bottom of the frame as Jaycob Brugman crushed a 2-run home run to right field to tie the game. The home run is Brugman's seventh of the season and his third in the last four games.

After the four-run first inning, the two teams traded eight scoreless innings before the Cougars finally took a 3-2 lead in the top of the tenth inning. After Hannemann singled to begin the inning, Shawon Dunston Jr. hit an RBI-single to center field to score the winning run.

The Snappers didn't record their second hit of the game until the ninth inning, a BJ-Boyd bloop single to center field.

Kane County had its best chance to take a lead in the top of the ninth inning as it loaded the bases with no outs but was unable to convert any runners into points.

Pierce Johnson pitched seven innings for the Cougars (7 IP, 1H, 2 ER) while Trivino lasted six innings for the Snappers (6 IP, 5H, 2 ER). Trivino's outing marks the first time in the last five games the Slippery Rock graduate has given up less than five earned runs.

Brendan McCurry (2014 22nd-round pick) pitched two scoreless innings of relief for the Snappers (2 IP, 1 H) in his debut with the team.

First round draft pick Matt Chapman went 0-for-4 in his home debut with Beloit, after going 4-for-11 in the team's road trip at Burlington.

The Snappers and Cougars return to action Saturday night at 7 p.m. for the second game of the series.
