Bees Grab Game One in Wisconsin

(Appleton-WI) Brandon Bayardi went 4-for-4 and drove in three runs, helping the Bees defeat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, 5-4, on Friday night at Neuroscience Group Field, in game one of a four game series.

The Bees jumped on the board first thanks to Brandon Bayardi single, scoring Mike Fish, putting the Bees on top 1-0 in the first inning.

Tyler Palmer made his Burlington Bees' debut on Friday night and tripled in his first at bat, with one out in the second inning. A failed squeeze play caught Palmer in a rundown, but would score on a throwing error, upping the Bees lead to 2-0.

The Bees doubled their lead in the fifth inning thanks to an Eric Aguilera triple, scoring Mike Fish and a Brandon Bayardi single, bringing home Aguilera, extending the Bees' lead to 4-0.

The Timber Rattlers cut into the deficit in the seventh. Garrett Cooper smacked a two run double, cutting the Bees' lead to 4-2. Two batters later, Steven Halcomb singled to right, scoring Cooper, and bringing the Timber Rattlers to within a run at 4-3.

Brandon Bayardi continued his big night at the plate, mashing a solo homerun to left, adding an important insurance run, making the score 5-3.

Wisconsin scratched across a run in the ninth but the Bees were able to fend off the Timber Rattlers and hang on for the 5-4 win.

Bees' starting pitcher, Garrett Nuss (4-0), worked 6.1 innings, allowing just three runs and tying a season high for strikeouts with seven, earning the win. Timber Rattlers' starter Clint Terry (1-2) was charged with the loss, Ben Carlson (5) notched the save for the Bees.

The Bees continues a four game series against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers tomorrow night at 6:30 PM. Victor Alcantara takes the mound for the Burlington Bees (42-35) against Taylor Williams for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (41-36).
