Brown Earns First Win in Captains' 11-2 Victory

(Dayton, OH)- Mitch Brown (1-6) earned his first win of the season as the Captains beat the Dragons 11-2 on Friday Night. Brown pitched five and one third shutout innings, allowing just three hits and two walks. Mitch struck out five. The Captains have won seven of the ten ballgames played between Lake County and Dayton this season.

Ivan Castillo laced his first homerun of the season over the right field wall and the Captains opened the scoring. In the third inning with Logan Vick at first and a run in on the homer, Claudio Bautista tripled home another run to make it 2-0.

Lake County batted around in the top half of the fourth inning. With two outs, Dayton committed an error that plated a run and loaded the bases. The score was 3-0 when Logan Vick laced a single to center to make the score 5-0 after two runs scored. A throwing error scored another run and moved Vick to third. Logan scored on a soft single to left by Claudio Bautista. The score was 7-0 after four innings.

The Captains weren't done. For the second straight inning Lake County batted around and this time plated four runs. The big hit in the inning was a two run triple off the bat of Grant Fink. The score was 11-0 after five innings.

Dayton scored a pair of runs in the ninth inning to avoid the shutout. Dayton sent eight men to the plate and used three walks, a hit batter and an RBI single from Tanner Rahier and the Final score was 11-2 Captains.

RHP Alexis Paredes entered in relief for Lake County and pitched two and two thirds innings. Paredes did not allow a run and just yielded one hit, he walked one and fanned one. Carlos Melo pitched the ninth for the Captains. Melo allowed two earned runs, three walks and hit a batter. Melo struck out two.

RHP Nick Travieso (6-4) started for the Dragons and took the loss. Travieso pitched four innings and allowed nine hits, ten runs, five of the ten runs were earned. Travieso walked two and struck out eight. He also allowed the homer to Ivan Castillo. The Dayton Bullpen consisted of three relievers. In five innings of relief the bullpen yielded just one run.

The Captains will remain in Dayton, Ohio to take on the Dragons in game two of a four game series. On Saturday, the Captains will send RHP Jordan Milbrath (2-8, 3.39) and Dayton will counter with RHP Jackson Stephens (0-0, 6.75). First Pitch is at 7:07 PM from Fifth Third Field.
