Joliet Slammers News Release

(Avon, OH) - After dropping the series finale with the Evansville Otters on Sunday and an off-day Monday, the Slammers bounced back on Tuesday morning in Ohio in a 3-2 win over the Lake Erie Crushers.

The Crushers took an early lead in the first when Adrian Ortiz slapped a leadoff double, advanced to third on a groundout by Brandon Decker, and came around to score when Andrew Davis grounded to second base.

The score stayed 1-0 until the sixth inning when Joliet finally got on the board. With one away, Hector Pellot walked, and scored when Erik Lis singled into the outfield and Crushers' catcher Brian Erie committed an error in the field.

Lake Eerie pulled ahead in the bottom of the inning when Gerad Mochizuki singled into right field scoring Jason Taylor, and moving Russell Moldenhauer onto third, but he was stranded to end the inning.

Trailing 2-1, the Slammers pulled ahead with a pair of runs in the seventh. Brad Netzel doubled to lead off the inning, Sean Estand moved him over on a groundout, and Trevor Willis picked up an RBI on a triple off the wall. With Willis aboard on third, Joliet made the gutsy move and successfully pulled off a suicide squeeze when Ben Hewitt bunted Willis home from third.

Tommy Mendoza picked up the win for the Slammers, tossing six innings and giving up just two runs. Chance Gilmore was stuck with the loss, and Amalio Diaz earned his first save of 2012.

Joliet continues the road trip Wednesday in Ohio with game two of their series with Lake Eerie before returning to Silver Cross Field on Friday. Fans can catch the action live on AM 1340 WJOL, and streaming live online at www.wjol.com, with Aaron Morse calling the action.
