Miners Defeat Freedom 4-1

Marion, IL - The Miners got their six game home-stand off on the right foot as they beat the Freedom 4-1. Brian Fowler earned his first win of the season as he pitched six strong innings and only allowed one run off four hits and struck out five.

The Miners got on the board first in the bottom of the third, with two outs in the inning. Sean Harrell got the rally going with a two out single. Darian Sandford got on base with a single. Then Jake Kaase delivered the big hit as he brought in both runners with a base hit. Kaase advanced to second on an error by Freedom outfielder Peter Fatse.

The Freedom got on the board with a run in the top of the fourth. The Miners leading 2-1 heading into the bottom of the eighth added two more runs. After Ken Gregory got on to lead off the inning with a single, Sean Harrell struck out. Darian Sandford walked in the next at bat. Jake Kaase popped up to third. Then with two outs, Chad Maddox hit a two RBI triple to give the Miners a 4-1 lead.

Max Peterson closed the game in the top of the ninth inning. Gabe Shaw tossed two scoreless innings in relief.

The Miners will have Dave Harden on the mound tomorrow (1-1, 3.27 ERA) as he'll be opposed by Alec Lewis (1-1, 2.84 ERA). First pitch is at 7:05 pm.
