(O'Fallon, MO)- The Slammers took a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the 8 th inning and mother nature was on their side, cancelling the remainder of the contest and robbing the River City Rascals of their last two plate attempts. The win marks the first time in 2012 Joliet has won the final game of a 1-1 series.

Entering the game after Friday's 13-1 blowout loss, the Slammers jumped on the board early. In the top of the first inning with two away, Hector Pellot doubled and Erik Lis singled him home to make it 1-0.

Joliet picked up the insurance run later on in the third inning. Jimmy Waters, who had a multi-hit performance, smacked a leadoff double, reached third on a Ben Hewett bunt, and crossed home when Abel Nieves doubled into the gap.

The Rascals got a run across in the home half of the sixth inning. Charlie Lisk doubled with two away, and Gerardo Avila proceeded to bring him around, making it 2-1.

The Slammers regained the two-run lead in the eighth, again starting things off with a base hit by Waters. He was cut down on his way to second on a groundout by Hewett. Hewett, however, moved up to second on a passed ball, reached third tagging up on a fly ball, and made it 3-1 scoring on a wild pitch.

Steven Maxwell tossed another gem for Joliet, going seven complete innings on just one run on two strikeouts and no walks, earning the win.

The Slammers open a six-game homestand back at Silver Cross Field on Sunday, Route 66 Night at the ballpark. Fans can catch live music before the contest. If you can't make it to the game, fans can listen live on AM 1340 WJOL with Aaron Morse and Greg Talbott calling the action.
