Rockford RiverHawks News Release
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - Schaumburg rallied for five runs in the sixth inning to take the lead on Saturday as the Boomers went on to beat the Rockford RiverHawks, 8-6.
The Boomers completed a three-game series sweep and won for the 10th time in 12 games. Rockford lost its fourth in a row.
For the second time in the series, Schaumburg rallied against the Rockford bullpen. Kasey Kiker (0-2) failed to retired any of the six batters he faced in the sixth inning. After Schaumburg loaded the bases on singles by Chad Mozingo and Sean Mahley and a walk by Nick Kuroczko, Ty Nelson singled in two runs to tie the game at 5-5. Nate Baumann singled home Kuroczko with the go-ahead run. After a walk reloaded the bases, Mickey Cassidy relieved Kiker and allowed two inherited runs to score, on a Gerard Hall sacrifice fly and on a wild pitch.
Rockford starter Drew Rucinski, who didn't give up an unearned run in five innings, left with the lead and got a no-decision.
Rockford had led since the second inning, when it rallied for three runs off starter Cameron Roth and took a 3-1 lead. Two runs scored when Michael Hur doubled to right field and Mahley missed the cutoff man. Hur came home on a single by Greg Van Horn. Hur and Van Horn each were 3-for-4.
Jason Braun (3-0) won in relief. Schaumburg closer Pat Mincey pitched a perfect ninth inning for his fourth save.
Frank Pfister hit a two-run homer, his third of the series and seventh of the year, off Rucinski in the third inning.
The RiverHawks are home at 6:05 p.m. Sunday to play Gateway. Kids 12 and under get in for $2 on YMCA Family Night. Following the game, kids get to run the bases and the RiverHawks will sign autographs.
