River City Rascals News Release
O'Fallon, Mo. - The Rascals trailed 3-1 after 7 1/2 innings and before they came to bat in the bottom of the eighth the rains came down to delay the game for 1 hour and 55 minutes, and with the rain still falling the game was called in favor of Joliet by that final, 3-1.
With the likelihood of rain the entire night, it was Joliet (14-13) who jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first on back-to-back two-out hits. The Slammers would add another run in the third with a two-out single to stretch their lead to 2-0.
River City (16-11) had a hit in each of the first four innings but failed to crack Joliet starter Steven Maxwell who allowed just one run in seven innings.
Gerardo Avila recorded his third hit of the game to score Charlie Lisk following his two out double in the sixth.
The statistics in the top of the eighth do count per rule 4.11(d).
River City has now dropped four-straight series and will open a new set in Evansville Sunday with first pitch set for 6:00 CT. You can catch all the live action on Westplex News-Talk 1280 KYRO and westplexnewstalk.com.
