
Miners Power Their Way Through Windy City

Crestwood, IL - The Southern Illinois Miners powered their way to victory over the Windy City ThunderBolts 10-3. The Miners took the series two games to one. Miners starter David Harden threw eight innings while giving up ten hits, one walk, allowed three runs and struck out five to earn his fourth win of the season.
Cannon Lester got the first run of the game for the Miners as he hit a solo home run off ThunderBolts starter Mike Recchia in the top of the second to give the Miners a 1-0 lead. The Miners then broke out in the top of the fifth inning, again off Recchia by scoring five runs to take a 6-0 lead. Chad Maddox started the scoring with a RBI double. Next, Ken Gregory brought in two runs with a RBI double. Cannon Lester got hit second RBI of the game with a base hit and Elliot Hagburg capped off the inning with a RBI double.
The ThunderBolts scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning off Miners starter Dave Harden, which would be the only runs he would give up the eight innings he pitched. Sean Harrell added another run in the top of the sixth with a solo home run off ThunderBolts reliever Ryan Carr to extend the Miners lead 7-3. The Miners scored once again in the top of the seventh when Carlos Mendez fourth hit of the game, which brought in Darian Sandford who pinch hit in the inning to give the Miners a 8-3 lead.
The Miners scored two more runs in the top of the ninth when Carlos Mendez on his fifth hit of the game brought in two runs off ThunderBolts reliever Michael Clark to take a 10-3 lead. Albert Ayala pitched a perfect ninth to give the Miners the 10-3 win.
With the win the Miners are now 17-10 on the season. The Miners return home for a six game home stand as they welcome in the Normal CornBelters. RHP Jimmy Albury will make his 2012 debut for the Miners as he will be opposed by RHP Daniel Britt. The Heartland Regional Medical Center Pregame Show begins at 4:45 pm on the Miners Radio Network. First pitch is scheduled at 5:05 pm.
