Wisconsin Rapids, WI-. Jackson Slaid added five RBI and the Rafters rallied from an early 4-0 deficit Sunday evening to defeat the Lakeshore Chinooks, 4-0. The win snapped a six-game losing streak for the Rafters and moved them out of the bottom of the Northwood's League south division standings.

The game withstood a three hour and 20 minute rain delay after the ballgame was suspended following heavy rain in the Wisconsin Rapids area. The delay occurred in the top of the second inning and marked the third time this season a Rafters game has gone into a delay.

Central Arkansas righty, Griffin Glaude, began the game and threw two strong innings while striking out four Chinook hitters and allowing four runs. The Rafters trailed the Chinooks 4-0 before the game was obstructed.

Once the delay was over, the Rafters attack came alive as they struck for eight runs in their six at-bats against Chinook righty, Mitchell Sewald.

The Rafters began their heroic comeback in the bottom of the third inning as right fielder, Cort Brinson, opened the inning by reaching on an infield single. Texas native, Taylor Stell, then roped a single to left giving the Rafters runners at first and second with one out. The single by Stell extended his team-best 12 game reached base streak while also adding to his current four-game hitting streak. Donnie Dewees then layed down a bunt single, giving the Rafters the bases loaded with Jackson Slaid stepping to the plate. After watching two-straight balls, Slaid pulled a ball over the right field wall, connecting on his fourth home run of the year and first grand slam as a Rafter. The home run by Slaid tied the game, 4-4. Three of Slaid's four home runs have all come with two or more men on base.

The Rafters added to their lead in the fifth as short stop Erik Payne connected on his third home run of the year, smacking a 1-0 pitch over the center field wall. The home run by Payne broke a 5-5 tie and gave the Rafters their largest lead of the ballgame, 7-5.

With the offense gelling, the pitching staff came through as newly acquired right handed pitcher, Trevor Koehn (pronounced CAIN), twirled two and two-thirds innings for the Rafters while giving up a run. Nick Kolarik would earn the win as he worked around trouble for much of his two and a third innings pitched, walking three and striking out one. The two innings scoreless lowered Kolarik's ERA to a sparkling 2.51. The win was the second of the season for Indiana State commit.

Nick Pettus would come on and slam the door in the final two frames to earn his first save of the season and snapping the Rafters season-long six-game losing streak.

The Rafters will begin a short three-game road trip beginning tomorrow when they bus to Battle Creek, MI for a short two-game series against the Bombers. The Bombers are 2-0 this season in contests against the Rafters.
