St. Cloud Rox Split Series with Rochester Falling 4-3 Monday

Rochester, Minn. - The St. Cloud Rox rounded out their series against the Rochester Honkers Monday night as they split the series falling in a battle by a final score of 4-3.

The Honkers took an early 1-0 lead over the Rox as Carter Burgess hit a double and then advanced on a single. Burgess then scored off a ground out ball to second.

Rochester would continue to extend their lead scoring one run in the second and in the third making it a 3-0 game going into the top of the fourth inning.

The Rox came back within one in the top of the sixth inning making it a 3-2 game. Chris Paul (So., University of California) got things going right away leading off with a triple to center field. With two outs on the Adam Martin (Jr., Western Carolina University) hit a double to left field scoring the Rox first run of the game. Christian Helsel (Fr., Ole Miss) followed with a double to right field scoring Martin.

Honkers' Carter Burgess hit a sacrifice fly to center field to take a 4-2 lead over St. Cloud in the bottom of the seventh.

In the top of the ninth the Rox' Garrett Fischer (R-Jr., St. Cloud State University) would hit a single to second base to keep the hope alive with one out on the board. Charlie Morgan (Jr., Wake Forest University) would then reach on an error by the second baseman and Fischer moved to third. Dustin Breshears (So., St. John's University NY) came into pinch run for Morgan at first. With Breshears being the tying run St. Cloud's Devin Pearson (Fr., University of California) was up to bat. On a wild pitch Fischer was able to score making it a 4-3 game and Breshears moved to second. The Rox were unable to tie the game up as Pearson struck out and Paul fouled out to right field to end the game.

Earning his first start with the Rox was Jason Hoppe (Jr., Minnesota State Univ. Mankato) pitching 6.0 innings on the mound. Kasey Ralston (Fr., Indiana University) and Kyle Davis (R-Jr., Colorado Mesa University) saw some action on the mound each pitching one inning.

The Rox (6-7, 6-7 North) will now hit the road and head to Thunder Bay, Canada taking on the Border Cats Tuesday to Thursday. Game times are slated for 6:05 p.m., 6:05 p.m., and 10:05 a.m. respectively at Subway Field.

St. Cloud will be back at Joe Faber Field June 15-16 as they host the Willmar Stingers. Game times are slated for 6:05 p.m. and 3:05 p.m. respectively. Saturday will be a Baseball Glove Giveaway presented by Central Minnesota Credit Union with the first 250 kids 12 and under receiving the giveaway. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. so show up early and play catch on the field from 4:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

It will also be "Ultimate Saturdays" where if you bring your ticket to the Ultimate Sports Bar & Grill after Saturday's home game you will receive a buy one, get one free drink of your choice (only redeemable the night of the game). Ultimate Sports Bar & Grill is located at 1101 Division St. in Waite Park.

The Rox' Sunday's game will be a Father's Day and Men's Health Day presented by Adult & Pediatric Urology. The first 250 kids 12 and under will receive a blue baseball. There will also be a player jersey auction with all proceeds benefiting Men's Health. Coborn's Kids' Day is on Sunday as kids will have the opportunity to run the bases and get autographs on the field after the game.
