February 3, 2016 - NBA G League (G League)
Sioux Falls Skyforce News Release
Sioux Falls, SD - The Sioux Falls Skyforce (22-6) failed to come back from an early deficit, losing 103-97 to the Canton Charge (15-13) on Wednesday night at the Pentagon.
After struggling early on, the Skyforce went on a 20-2 run spanning from the end of the first quarter to midway through the second. However, Canton immediately followed with a run of its own, outscoring Sioux Falls 24-5 to take a 52-39 lead into the halftime break.
After trailing much of the second half by double-digits, the Skyforce were able to cut the lead to just five points with 2:09 left in the fourth quarter, but weren't able to close the gap any further, losing consecutive games for the first time since starting the season 0-2.
Sioux Falls' backcourt kept them within striking distance through much of the first half behind strong play from Briante Weber (14 points, nine rebounds, six assists, three steals), Tre Kelley (23 points, eight assists), and Bubu Palo (19 points). A normally consistent frontcourt in Byron Mullens (two points, 10 rebounds) and Keith Benson (19 points, six rebounds) was held in check, combining for zero points in the first 24 minutes. Benson scored all 19 of his points in the second half.
Quinn Cook scored a game-high 30 points for the Canton Charge, making 11 of his 12 free throw attempts. Nick Minnerath and John Holland recorded 21 points each, and Gutierrez neared a triple-double with 10 points, eight rebounds and eight assists.
Though Sioux Falls outscored Canton 68-34 in points in the paint, the Charge were able to maintain a consistent lead by making 27 of 30 free throw attempts as a team and out-rebounded the Skyforce 40-35 in the game.
Sioux Falls travels to White Plains, NY to take on the Knicks (17-12) on Friday, February 5 in the first matchup of a three-game road trip.
Canton will stay on the road as well on Friday, taking on The Mad Ants (13-14) at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne.
