Sioux Falls Skyforce News Release
SIOUX FALLS, S.D., Mar. 16 - The Sioux Falls Skyforce defeated the Idaho Stampede 117-115 in overtime on Tuesday night in their first game at the Sioux Falls Arena in 23 days. Joe Krabbenhoft provided a spark off the bench with 19 points and nine rebounds in his first game since being reacquired to help Sioux Falls win for the 14th time in their last 16 outings.
Sioux Falls shot 60.9 percent (14-of-23) in the opening quarter to take a 31-28 lead after one. The hot shooting continued in the second quarter as the Skyforce shot 61.9 percent (13-of-21) to take a 61-55 lead at halftime behind 12 points from Krabbenhoft.
Idaho only trailed by one point (84-83) after three quarters and took a five-point lead (102-97) following a Lance Hurdle 3-pointer, his third of the quarter. Idaho seemed to have the game in hand as they led 106-99 following a Mildon Ambres jumper in the corner with 51.6 seconds remaining in the contest. Sioux Falls made a furious comeback and tied the game at 106 apiece following two free throws by Leemire Goldwire with 11.4 seconds to go. Krabbenhoft had a shot to win the game following a miss by Coby Karl, but it was tipped by Ambres and the game headed into overtime.
Donnell Taylor scored on a driving lay-up with 45.7 seconds to go in overtime to tie the game at 114. After Jared Newson made 1-of-2 from the charity stripe, Idaho had a chance to take the lead but the Skyforce blocked shots from Taylor and Karl and Idaho was forced to foul. David Bailey made both free throws to give Sioux Falls a 117-114 lead with 7.2 seconds to go. Idaho rushed the ball up the court and Bailey fouled Andre Barrett as he attempted the game-tying 3-pointer. A 90.2 percent free throw shooter coming into the game, he missed the first free throw forcing Idaho to change their strategy. After making the second, he missed the third one intentionally but Chris McCray secured the rebound to help the Skyforce improve to 15-5 at home.
Goldwire recorded 21 points in a reserve role while Raymond Sykes chipped in with 19 points behind a perfect 9-of-9 shooting from the field. Greg Stiemsma had a solid all around game with eight points, eight rebounds and seven blocks.
Barrett scored a game-high 27 points on 9-of-13 field goals for the visiting Stampede. Lance Allred posted his ninth double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds while Karl scored 21 points to go along with nine assists.
The same two teams tangle tomorrow night at 7 p.m. CT.
