Iowa Wolves News Release
Des Moines, IA, Mar. 17, 2010 - Reserve forward Mark Tyndale scored 30 points while Phoenix Suns assignee Earl Clark notched 27 points in his Iowa debut as the Energy defeated the Dakota Wizards 135-132 in overtime Wednesday night.
The game was a tale of two halves as Iowa jumped out to a 70-57 lead at halftime as Clark scored 17 points while point guard Curtis Stinson handed out 14 assists. Dakota would storm back in the 2nd half as they closed the Energy lead to just four points on a pair of Curtis Wither's free throws to close out the 3rd quarter.
Former Wizard Connor Atchley, recently signed by the Energy, scored Iowa's first six points of the 4th quarter to extend Iowa's lead back to seven points.
The Energy, who improved to 33-11 on the year, appeared to have the game wrapped up as Cartier Martin knocked down two free throws to put the home team up by six with only 0:37 remaining. Dakota's Maurice Baker drilled a three pointer to cut the lead in half. Iowa's inbounds pass was intercepted, and Baker nailed a deep two-point jump shot to narrow the lead to one point. A pair of Curtis Stinson free throws extended the lead back to three. After a timeout, Dakota's David Bell, who hit ten three -pointers in last season's playoff victory over Iowa, drilled a deep jumper to send the game into overtime.
Iowa scored the first seven points of overtime and again appeared to have the game in hand. The Wizards, who are fighting for a playoff berth, went on a quick 10-2 run to take the lead with only 0:30 left. Following an Energy timeout, Iowa forward Cartier Martin knocked down a 12 foot jumper to regain the lead. Dakota's Lester Hudson, on assignment form the Memphis Grizzlies, couldn't convert his jump shot. Tyndale grabbed the rebound and knocked down two free throws to finish the game.
Stinson finished the game with 19 points and 21 assists. In addition to his 27 points, Clark added 12 rebounds on the night. Iowa is now two wins short of clinching the Eastern Conference title.
Dakota was led by Baker's 24 points. The Wizards fall to 24-19 with the loss.
The Energy host Sioux Falls on Friday and Saturday. Tickets for kids 12 & under are just $5 anywhere in the arena both games. For tickets, visit www.iowanba.com or call 515-564-8550.
