June 6, 2006 - The Syracuse SkyChiefs plated 10 runs on 16 hits, rolling past the Tides 10-3 in front of 9,318 fans on 25 cent hot dog night at Harbor Park.
The SkyChiefs wasted no time in taking the lead, plating one run in the first inning and five in the second off of Tides starter John Maine (1-4). Maine allowed six runs on eight hits in 4.0 innings of work, walking three and striking out seven in his second rehab start with the Tides. The 25-year-old threw 86 pitches, 54 for strikes.
Chad Mottola led the SkyChiefs with three hits and three RBI, as every member of the Syracuse starting lineup collected a base hit.
The ten runs were more than enough for SkyChiefs starter Jamie Vermilyea (1-2), who allowed two earned runs on six hits in 6.0 innings.
Jose Offerman led the Tides offense with two base hits, and Julio Ramirez doubled and drove in two runs in the loss. The
Norfolk and Syracuse will continue their four-game set Wednesday night from Harbor Park, with first pitch set for 7:15 p.m. Jason Scobie (1-7, 6.79) is set to take the hill for Norfolk against Syracuse southpaw David Purcey (2-6, 4.41).
