Harrisburg Senators News Release
A fifth-inning grand slam by Matt Skole snapped a 4-4 tie and led to an 8-4 Senators win over the Bowie Baysox Tuesday night at Metro Bank Park. Skole finished 2-for-4 with five RBI in the Senators win.
All eight of Harrisburg's runs came within a span of two innings as the Senators scored four runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. Four different players had hits in the four-run fourth, including RBI knocks by Kevin Keyes and Adrian Sanchez. Shawn Pleffner and Skole also batted in a run in the inning. With two outs in the fifth, Keyes and Pleffner singled while Caleb Ramsey walked to load the bases for Skole. The Senators' first baseman worked ahead in the count, 3-1, and launched a fastball from Bowie's Tim Berry over the left-center field fence for a grand slam. Joining the Senators for the evening on a rehab assignment was Nationals OF Denard Span. The lefty played seven innings and went 1-for-4 at the plate.
In his second start, Austin Voth once again pitched six innings. He allowed four runs on seven hits and struck out seven. The Senators bullpen continued their outstanding performance, combining for three scoreless innings. Robert Benincasa turned in two perfect innings and Paul Demny closed the game out with a scoreless ninth inning. Voth, Benincasa and Demny combined to retire 13 of the last 14 Bowie batters.
The rubber match of a three-game series will begin tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m. On the mound for Harrisburg will be Joe Ross against Bowie's Elih Villanueva.
