Six-Run Second Costs Pigs in 10-2 Loss

A six-run second for Columbus cost the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (15-17) in a 10-2 loss to the Clippers (21-11) on Wednesday night at Huntington Park.

In the afore-mentioned six-run second, Adam Moore delivered the big blow with a three-run blast off of Pigs starter Mark Appel, Michael Martinez knocked home a pair with a two-run double and later scored on a wild pitch from Appel. The Pigs also committed two errors in the inning charged to 3B Taylor Featherston and SS Ryan Jackson.

Appel (3-2) gave up the six runs (three earned) on seven hits while walking one and fanning five in five innings of work.

Andrew Knapp's (2-4, HR, 2 RBI, R) two-run shot off of Columbus starter Mike Clevinger in the top of the sixth brought the IronPigs within 6-2. The home run was Knapp's fourth of the season.

In the home half of the frame, Moore reached with a one-out double, advanced to third on a single and scored on an RBI fielder's choice from Martinez. A throwing error by Featherston on the play allowed a second run to score and give the Clippers an 8-2 advantage.

Clevinger (5-0) gave up the two runs on three hits to go along with two walks and seven strikeouts in 6.0 IP.

Columbus extended the lead to 9-2 in the seventh with Yhoxian Medina's solo shot off of Pigs RHP Reinier Roibal (2.0 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, BB, 2 K).

In the bottom of the eighth, Moore reached on a throwing error by Featherston, advanced to third on a double and scored on Jesus Aguilar's RBI single.

The series wraps up on Thursday at 11:05 a.m. as RHP Alec Asher (2-0, 0.00) will be on the bump for the IronPigs against Columbus LHP Ross Detwiler (0-1, 4.50).
