May 24, 2016 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Lynchburg Hillcats News Release

Lynchburg tallied a six-run second inning to take a commanding lead on its way to a series opening 7-2 win against the Wilmington Blue Rocks. David Armendariz hit his first home run with the Hillcats this season as part of the big inning. Antonio Romero earned his first win in Lynchburg this season after coming out of the bullpen to relieve Nick Pasquale.

ARMENDARIZ DELIVERS IN A BIG WAY

The 'Cats started the scoring in the bottom half of the second frame with a six-run inning. Yu-Cheng Chang lead off the inning with a double, which was followed by a Mike Papi walk and a Mark Mathias single. With the bases loaded Chang came home on a wild pitch to begin the scoring. During the same at-bat David Armendariz crushed a no-doubt homer over the scoreboard in left field to make the score 4-0.

Sicnarf Loopstok and Greg Allen kept the scoring going with back-to-back hits. Loopstok scored on a rare sacrifice fly to the third baseman, who made running catch in foul territory. Allen came home on an error by the second baseman to make the score 6-0.

BULLPEN COMES TO THE RESCUE

Nick Pasquale started the game on the bump for the 'Cats but was forced to leave in the fourth inning after a line drive hit him in the hand. Antonio Romero came out of the bullpen and threw three frames to earn the win. Romero pitched around two runs in the sixth inning while striking out five batters. Cameron Hill closed out the win and earned his first save on the year. Hill struck out four batters without allowing a walk and only surrendered one hit. The right-hander was very efficient with 22 of his 32 pitches being strikes.
